The black and white text illustrations are engraved by the Vizetelly Brothers after Albert d'Arnoux who adopted the pseudonym Bertall, an anagram of his first name. The frontispiece is printed in colour and gilt. This is a translation of Dumas' version of Hoffmann's story. Two parts in one volume with separate pictorial title-pages printed in red and black. By Alexandre Dumas ; with two hundred and twenty illustrations by Bertall.
