Inscribed in pen & ink, l.r.: C H J Snider; In pencil, vso: U.S. GUNBOAT "MICHIGAN" 1843 - LATER "WOLVERINE". / ... still in service (1915)... she was armed with one 30 pounder, five / twenty pounders, two twelves and 6 fours, during / the American War, 1861-65 ... Lake Erie is her cruising ground. She was / renamed "Wolverine" late last century.   Heyl VI:191-5.    See Snider notes.
