- Humane society workers Wilf Patey (left) and Reginald Chapman hold up a Canada goose rescued from oil spill along Sunnyside waterfront. More than 75 ducks; geese and seagulls were caught in what was believed to be fuel oil from an unknown source. Only about 5 per cent will live; says Patey; society's chief license inspector. The rest will last about seven days after they pick away at the oil on their feathers; swallow it and die. Most of the oil is frozen in the ice.
