The peaceful valley, or, The influence of religion: a narrative of facts. Attributed to Hugh Stowell in Halkett and Laing. The author was the curate of the parish of Shepscombe. The book is about its Sunday school and the work of the vicar's wife, ''Mrs. M.'' [i.e. Mrs. Strickland Neville]. The frontispiece is dated May 21, 1825.

Some people, he says, look for favorable answers and will ignore warnings nine times out of ten. Bureau staff is told to stick to facts and not make judgments.
