  • 18 Girl Guides Receive top award. The Canada Cord; the highest award a Girl Guide can win; was presented to 18 girls last night in Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute in Scarborough. The presentation was made by Mrs. W. P. Gurd (centre); chief commissioner of the Girl Guides of Canada. A special guest was Lyn Joynt (behind Mrs. Gurd); the executive director of the World Bureau of Girl Guides. All the cord-winners are 14 and are in Grade 9. In addition; 17 Guides received the All-Around Cord.
