Notes
Original Toronto Star caption: A forest fire that burned over 1,200 acres near Manitouwadge stopped at the edge of town, 275 miles northwest of Sault Ste. Marie, when the wind changed and railroad tracks created a fire break. Now men with water packs on their backs are going through the bush, putting out any small fires they find. This is one of the worst forest-fire summers in Ontario history, 156 burned yesterday.
