Original Toronto Star caption: A Danforth sample of Greek heritage. Metro's Greek community turned out in force for a Danforth Ave. parade marking Hellenic National Day, anniversary of an 1821 Greek uprising that helped put an end to 400 years of Turkish rule. Friday was the actual anniversary, but celebrations continue this week. Greeks are anticipating the arrival in Canada today of Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, who will be in Metro Tuesday.
