Original Toronto Star caption: Hundreds of bells hang in Hillis Rowland's home on Highway 10 north of Snelgrove; and the three small ones he's examining are his latest acquisition. He bought them from the University of Toronto when the old carillon at the Soldiers Tower was replaced. Rowland started his collection nine years ago.

      Uncle Frank Dawson tends to one of his injured wildfowl at his 3 3/4-acre conservation area on Elmcrest Rd. The 83-year-old bachelor has been patching up injured birds for as long as anyone can remember. With a small creek running through the back, his property has become a haven for hundreds of waterfowl. He has lived in the same house for over 50 years and has raised a varietyof birds. But Dawson can't recall when people started to bring birds to him, he said.

      Hundreds of rocks are displayed in the mineralogy department laboratory of the Royal Ontario Museum as Dr. Joseph Mandarino, head of the department, talks with 13-year-old Steven Berdock. Steven began collecting specimens two years ago and is proud of the display he has at home. The museum's collection is one of the fienst in North America and among the best ten in the world.

      Twice the fun: Ken Christofi, owner of Toronto's Bauhaus night club and seen here with niece Tanna, 3, had his 1974. Beetle painted VW Bug blue (it was white), the same colour as the VW his father had when Christofi was a boy in Cyprus. His New Beetle, a turbodiesel model, is white. Chriscofi admits he loves the bells and whistles and comfort of the '90s remake.
