Original Toronto Star caption: Toronto Airport Terminal stood almost deserted today, with no Air Canada planes at their customary passenger-loading areas. Usually there is a daily passenger load of about 10,000. Strike was called at midnight last night, by 6,500 machinits, to back up demands for a 20 per cent wage increase in a one-year contract. Air Canada management has offered a 23 per cent increase, spread over three years. At airport, the shutdown of operations was orderly.
