Official Liberal Candidate and winner in High Park, Walter Deakon, with wife and sons Tim, 10, and Tony, 8, was congratulated by all but one opponent: Ralph Cowan, cut off by the Liberal Party, ran badly but wouldn't concede he was defeated. This was a contest, Cowan replied bleakly.
