The company had a difficult first decade operating its tar sands plant and investors also have taken their lumps. No dividends have been paid on common stock and shareholders watched stock hit alltime high of $17, then fell to current price of $5.

The firm is currently facing a challenge to its domination of the travellers' cheque market from Visa and Master Charge, whose credit cards dominate the international bank card scene. Master Charge hopes to be in the business by next May and Visa will make a decision shortly.
