      Showing how his wares work - almost all at the same time - is Ballon King Otto Bishof. He estimates he'll sell about 50,000 balloons and about 30,000 party hats, horns, noise-makers, bells and whistles to bring in the New Year. After 11 years in the business, he says he still has a lot of fun. Bischof also rents out canisters of helium gas to fill balloons, and he and staff also decorate some hotels for the festivities.

      Transport of the future, an air-cushioned vehicle for use on rough terrain, is being developed at the U of T Institute for Space Studies. Dr. Rod Tennyson explains how it works to Henry McKay.The vehicle would be particularly useful in the far North.       It has to be widened, says Metro traffic commissioner Sam Cass of the Don Valley Parkway as he stands on footbridge crossing it at Riverdale Zoo. Planners estimate it will cost $15 million to widen parkway an extra two lanes, and it's not the right solution adds Cass. In addition, two other street widening programs will cost another $9 million. Cass blames halting of the Spadina Expressway.
