External Affairs Minister Mitchell Sharp pedals through North Toronto Saturday with 16 youngsters, handing out leaflets urging his re-election in Eglinton riding in the Oct.30 federal election. Sharp had problems with his bicycles during the blitz: He started out with a bike with standard gears -- and the brakes seized up, next he borrowed a racing model--and a tire blew out, then he borrowed a girl's bicycle, which survived to the end. Sharp has won Eglinton riding in 1963, 1965 and 1968.

That's because he's too busy spreading the word about the bicycle storage system his business is built around. The device was designed by a retired RCMP sergeant, Terry Smith, and it promises to end the clutter of bikes parked every which way.
