Fire-side verses. Author's presentation copy. The inscription on the flyleaf reads: ''Anne Gertrude Bateman from Mrs. Howitt, Richmond, 1853''. Six of the nine poems appear in the 1845 edition. The last three are from Tales in verse. Contains The blind boy and his sister -- The boy of the southern isle -- Little children -- The old friend and the new -- Corn fields -- Mabel on Midsummer Day -- Ellen More -- A swinging song -- Spring.
