  • Model T Ford marked the beginning of the giant U.S. auto industry, which is facing its worst sales slump since the 1930s. Ford of Canada president Roy Bennett, above says: Optimistic as I am, I'd be surprised if any U.S. auto company will make a profit the first quarter of 1975. Falling sales, down 25 per cent last year, have been blamed partly on the energy crisis, partly on loss of consumer confidence. Automakers introduced car rebate plans to spur consumer buying.
