      Puppy love isn't saddling Metro with as many unwanted pets as it used to, says George Banton, chief animal control officer for the Borough of York. The animal shelter now has empty cages and Banton gives the credit to the borough's low-cost spay-neuter program, begun two years ago.

Dunbar, 49, has used his equity in Canadian Tire shares to pay off his mortgage and start a business that later failed. He still has more than $120,000 left. He hopes to retire in few years.
