Original Toronto Star caption: Plains road public school. Which has been ordered closed by Provincial Board of Health; on the suggestion of school trustees. Approximately four hundred pupils attended the school. It was closed owing to the unsatisfactory condition of the conveniences. The school may be opened next week.

Plains Road Public School, also known as School Section No. 7, York Township, opened in 1891 and the original building was demolished in 1964. The school was renamed Diefenbaker Public School in 1976.
