Allen Park - probably not one of the most permanent parks on the metro scene - is unofficially opened in a sunrise ceremony today; smack in the middle of the proposed Spadina (Allen) Expressway route at Lawrence Ave. A group from the Stop Spadina - Save Our City organization arrived with spades to plant a group of young trees across the right of way; and then cheer when Alderman William Kilbourn cut a red ribbon and declared park open. The project coincided with Earth Day; a demonstration by groups trying to save the enviornment.
