Alternate Title
  • Ghosts of past dissipated by crashing walls and tumbling partitions. Where the fitful flames of a hospitable fire roared on many a wintry evening at the old Queen's Hotel; the desecrating blow of the pick this morning sounded the death-knell of this historic hostel. Phoenix-like; a new and beautiful creation will rise fromthe ruins; but before that can take place; the walls and partitions of the old hotel must come crashing down; disturbing a thousand uneasy old ghosts of the past. One more landwark of early Toronto is passing from the sight of the present generation; as it will pass even from the memory of the generation to come. The Star photographer has caught above the workmen; unwilling playing the part of Vandal; who began to-day the first strokes of the tattoo that must bring the whole edifice to the ground.
