Next stop; Lima. Toronto dock workers load one of 25 buses decommissioned by the Toronto Transit Commission on to a freighter at Pier 51 near Cherry St. and Unwin Ave. yesterday. The buses; taken out of service after 18 years; and two city garbage trucks are bound for Lima; Peru.

Anchor aground: An old anchor looms in the foreground and mist rises off the water as Toronto harbor gets an early foretaste of the quiet days of winter. The harbor was busier this year than last; but things slow down to a crawl when winter really takes hold and the St. Lawrence Seaway and Welland Canal close for the season. Shipping usually stops at the end of December.

Coast guard Ship Port Dauphine at pier after staggering into Toronto harbor heavy with ice and with a 12-degree list. Ship made a all-night run from east end of lake when heavy seas kept scientists aboard from working.
