NotesOriginal Toronto Star caption: Harbor police clear the way. Patrol officers Bruce Hales and Mike McLafferty of the Harbor Police take a 40-foot all-weather lifeboat with a one-ton keel out into their slip yesterday to push away chunks of ice that might delay getting out into the harbor on a rescue. A heavy tug and fireboat William Lyon Mackenzie break through the ice when it's necessary; police describe the slip-clearing as the equivalent of shovelling the snow off the walk.
