Notes
Original Toronto Star caption: Old soldiers will hardly recognize the trenches which pit Vimy Ridge. Neat cement bags now line the sides Title derived from a clipping on the verso of the image. A second clipping on the verso records: Front line trenches still preserved. Place names in the news today as German repeats her offensive against France are familiar to thousands of Canadians who fought there in the last war. At Vimy Ridge, where Canadian troops won undying fame in the captpre [sic] of the ''impregnable positions, these Canadian front line trenches are preserved today as they were in 1917. Every Toronto batallion had its share in the Vimy Ridge victory.''
